In an egalitarian Jewish community such as USH, all are, theoretically, obligated or free to observe the mitzvot (commandments). But many questions remain: What happens to mitzvot traditionally observed by women only such as Friday night candle lighting? How does the idea of mitzvot, and Jewish law in general, work for LGTBQ, and especially non-binary people? What does obligation mean?
