As we enter 5780, the United Synagogue of Hoboken (USH) invites you to reflect upon its deep commitment to you and your family, and hopefully your commitment to it. USH relies upon your generosity to continue to fulfill its critical mission.
USH welcomes – and is strengthened by – the newcomer, the curious, the 21st century family, the long-standing member and the stranger, particularly at a time when the local and global Jewish community faces pressures including assimilation and external threats.
Indeed, much of this important work originates in our beloved historic building, which is why I am asking you to join us this Yom Kippur in fulfilling a long-time congregational goal and necessity: air conditioning our beautiful sanctuary.
This project is vital, particularly for members of our congregation who are elderly and who are very young, and such temperature control will also help with the preservation of our precious Torah scrolls. It will also aid in countless other ways large and small, in which we bring Judaism into people’s lives.
The cost of air conditioning the sanctuary is estimated at $300,000. Our goal is to raise $200,000 from this year’s Yom Kippur Appeal. Please support this campaign generously. We have not had a capital appeal for ten years. We are asking each person or family who has provided support previously to increase their support, if that is at all possible, by 50% over last year’s level. No amount is too small. Every single gift helps us to achieve our goal of modernizing our beautiful and historic home, making it more accessible to everyone, and better serving our vibrant community.
I am excited to share that some donors have already generously agreed to match a portion of our collective contributions.
To make a fully tax-deductible gift, you may complete your pledge here or call us at (201) 659-4000.
If you would like to consider USH in your estate plan or have already done so, please let me know, so that I can provide more information to you and express our sincere thanks to you for supporting USH in this meaningful way.
Please consider giving to USH today. I sincerely thank you for your generosity and our shared commitment to USH in its 104th year!
L’Shana Tova Tikatevu,
