Speaker/Shabbat Dinner 7:45pm (following 7pm services): Artist Jonatas Chimen. “Untold stories of the Jewish community of Brazil”: As a teen, Jonatas came to the US from Brazil and began to research his religious background, discovering that he was a descendent of Spanish and Portuguese Jews who were forcibly converted to Catholicism during the Spanish Inquisition. His family’s concealed Jewish identity became an important theme in his award-winning artwork.

Presentation by Jonatas at 7:45pm is free and open to the public; RSVP office@hobokensynagogue.org.

 

Jonatas will also lead a lunch/learn on Sat., March 17 at 1pm (following Shabbat morning services) with discussion of his artwork; free and open to the public.  RSVP office@hobokensynagogue.org
