young leadership
The Young Leadership Division of United Jewish Communities/Federation (YLD) is a diverse and energetic group of Jews devoted to the expansion of Jewish social life, education and community service in the Hoboken area. Formed in 1995, YLD welcomes singles and couples in their twenties and thirties to provide opportunities for involvement and leadership in a wide range of activities.
Through our annual fundraising campaign, YLD helps support local and international charities through the UJC Federations of North America (UJC). The support of our members, together with other UJC contributions throughout the world, provides basic social services to Jews in eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and helps emigrants settle in Israel. At the same time we support our local community with donations to the Jewish Family and Counseling Service, Jewish War Veterans, and the United Synagogue of Hoboken.
Some recent events include:
- Annual Picnic
- Shabbat dinner lectures and discussions with topics ranging from politics in Israel to Jewish views on abortion, euthanasia and premarital sex
- Shopping for Seniors
- Happy Hours under the sukkah and at local bars
- Working at the Soup Kitchen at St. John the Baptist Church
- Movie Night at the Shannon Lounge
- Habitat for Humanity Construction Projects
- Ice Skating at Chelsea Piers
- Renovation Days at The United Synagogue of Hoboken
