membership
We are an informal and welcoming community committed to renewing vibrant, inclusive, and egalitarian Jewish life in the riverfront towns of Hudson County.
The most important membership benefit is being part of a place where our presence makes a difference and where, as each of us discovers or rediscovers Judaism, synagogue life becomes richer and more vital.
Members receive free admission to High Holiday services, discounts at various programs, preschool admission preference, learning center admission eligibility, our monthly newsletter, The Shofar, cemetery rights, and a voice in synagogue issues.
Membership is open to Jewish adults, and their partners, whether or not they are Jewish. Everyone is encouraged to participate in community life. Partners who are not Jewish, and who choose not to join, are warmly invited to participate in all synagogue events and services, and to receive the member discount at all fee-based events.
Synagogue operations and programs depend on member volunteers. This approach strengthens communal bonds, helps keep dues at a moderate level, and enables us to provide a vigorous range of programs such as:
- Kaplan Family Learning Center
- Kaplan Cooperative Preschool
- Adult Education
- Social Action
- Cultural Events, such as the Winter Culture Series and Casino Night, Las Vegas-style games, with cabaret
- Cub Scouts
The dues assessments listed below are valid March 1, 2013 through July 15, 2013
Dues are assessed according to five categories:
- Household (two adults, with no children or any number of children)
($1,645 or $1605 if paid before July 15, 2013) - Age 30-69 (one adult, with no children or any number of children)
($820 or $795 if paid before July 15, 2013) - Age 27-29 ($415)
- Age 21-26 ($155)
- Full-time college or graduate student ($150)
- Age 70 and over ($205)
- Alumni ($55)
A child under the age of 21 who is not a college or graduate student, and who lives with a parent who is a USH member, is included in the parent's membership.
Members who prefer not to fulfill the volunteer requirement of helping at two synagogue events during the year may choose to buy out of that responsibility for $415 per person.
No qualified individual is ever denied membership for financial reasons. Confidential arrangements can be made by contacting VP Membership Elissa Aaronson.
