We want to officially invite you and your child to participate in the United Synagogue of Hoboken Kaplan Family Learning Center.
The goal of our Learning Center is to help children develop a sense of pride and excitement about being Jewish. During Saturday mornings, our beloved teacher Marilyn Freiser has developed an amazing drama/dress up program for children 4 and 5 years of age. Marilyn has sewn hand made clothes so that each child feels like he or she can jump into the pages of the Torah. This program helps children to understand the cycle of stories of the Torah and enables them to participate in Shabbat prayers, blessings and in the larger Synagogue community. Children will eat challah, drink grape juice, participate in the Torah Parade and end the service with all the older students. Please take note that this class is a drop off class and children learn with Marilyn.
We find that being part of a Jewish community on Shabbat mornings is an especially valuable way to introduce children to the joy of being Jewish. Our Saturday Shabbat staff makes coming to Shabbat especially engaging, fun and relevant.
Synagogue membership, while certainly encouraged, is not required for those wishing to enroll their children in the Gan class. (It is a requirement for subsequent years of the Learning Center.)
Enclosed you will find application, tuition, medical, student information, pick-up authorization, and billing authorization forms. If your child is presently in the Kaplan Preschool, please fill out the enrollment form only. If your child is not in the Kaplan Preschool, please fill out all of the information in this packet. If you have any questions about the forms or would like to have this letter sent to others in the community who are interested in our program, please contact Anita Belle, the Learning Center Administrator, in the synagogue office and she will put them on our mailing list.
Please make an appointment for you and your child to meet with me before the application deadline of August 22, 2011; I can be reached at 201-659-4000 or Learning Center Administrator. At that meeting, we will go over:
- The philosophy of our school.
- What your child's Shabbat morning class will look like.
- How wonderful your child is!
- Special Needs and Questions
The Learning Center is a place that is filled with love of Judaism and love of learning. Classes are taught by amazing practitioners who fill each lesson with creative experiential programming. I hope you join us in making our community more vibrant.
